The (Spy) Story of SATUMA Jasoo
The Jasoos is a tactical reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in service with the Pakistan Air Force. It is locally designed and manufactured under the SATUMA brand. Its general configuration is a conventional wheeled fixed landing gear, a high-wing main aircraft and biplanes.
The drone is based on a dual-arm configuration with a central cabin housing optics, avionics, fuel and engines, and adjusts its engine at the rear, which rotates a two-bladed propeller in a "slider" configuration. The optics are held in a ventral blister assembly that allows 360 rotation.
In terms of size, the drone has a length of 4.27 meters and a wingspan of 4.92 meters. The maximum take-off weight (MTOW) is 245 kg. Power comes from a 2-cylinder, two-stroke gasoline engine that produces 38 horsepower when driving a two-bladed propeller.
Performance figures include a top speed of 180 kilometers per hour, a range of up to 100 kilometers, and a service ceiling of up to 3,480 meters. Task duration should be in the 6 hour range.
The drone was not armed for a direct attack. Instead, its payload (up to 40 kg) consists of an electro-optical system for battlefield reconnaissance. Data is transmitted to the Ground Control Station (GCS) via a data link unit. There is a built-in autonomous feature that allows remote and pre-programmed waypoint management as needed.
Takeoff and landing are managed by the operator.
